Love is in the Air

 

It's almost Valentine's Day which means love is in the air... but what happens when Cupid takes aim in the workplace?

Today, many companies have prohibitions against intimate relationships in the workplace because once Cupid is done and love goes sour, things get uncomfortable at best and can turn downright terrible. Even consensual relationships are problematic.

In the worst cases, there is a power dynamic where an executive is having relations with someone reporting to them creating havoc and dramatically impacting culture. Case in point, Lilly’s CFO just resigned this week due to an inappropriate relationship with an employee.

When an executive is involved HR and legal will both come to the table (likely with outside counsel). I encourage you to make sure compliance and ethics are also sitting at the table with you because this all goes beyond HR and Legal to your entire company culture.
